Hands-on Classes at the Workhouse Art Center

Jackson Pollock imitation paintingArt is subjective. While some might argue that Jackson Pollock was one of the most gifted American artists of the past century, I still have trouble distinguishing what makes one of his paint-splattered canvases 10 million dollars more valuable than the macaroni-art necklace I crafted for my mom when I was seven.

But whether you’re burdened with a simple artistic palate like mine, or blessed with the rare gift of “good taste,” the best way to truly appreciate art in Lorton is by jumping in and creating something yourself.

One of the best places to hone your skills is the Workhouse Art Center. Every fall and winter, the Center offers some engaging classes in ceramics, glass, the “art of movement” and performing arts and film.  Classes are taught by expert instructors who work with students of a wide variety of skill sets and artistic backgrounds, so even if the only brushes you’ve ever used involve hair detangling and dental cleanliness, it’s never too late to grab some paint and explore your artistic side.

For more info about specific class sessions and availability for 2011 fall and winter classes, check the Workhouse website or call 703-495-0001.  Know of any other great classes in the Lorton area?  Make sure to comment and let us know!
